Rethinking Communications
Whether an organization is for-profit or nonprofit, private or public, there are two fundamental pillars of communication that success is built on. First, tap the wisdom within. If we are ready to listen, and know how to ask our staff, board, customers, supporters, stakeholders and communities have the wisdom we need to understand the current issues, chart a course forward, and move with purpose and conviction.
Second, meet people where they are at. Whether you are soliciting advice or support, persuading or testifying, inviting or informing, your message is only as powerful as the language you use, the bond of trust established, and your willingness to meet your audience where - physically, emotionally, linguistically, technically - they are.
The ability to communicate openly, in any environment, with trust and mutual respect is a skill we refine throughout our lives. It takes confidence and a willingness to be vulnerable. This is where we come in, as your guide, your ally, your counsel, and your sounding board. Together we will create an environment built on trust and collaboration, where everyone’s contribution is welcomed, to support a genuine exchange from which real solutions grow.

More about Emily
Emily is an innovative and results-focused leader with twenty-five years of experience supporting and growing for profit, nonprofit, and government organizations in the US and Europe. After holding international marketing and public relations positions with Hewlett Packard and VeriFone, she shifted her focus to the nonprofit sector and worked in leadership roles with The Nature Conservancy and Local Motion. Before joining Momentum Communications Emily served as Commissioner of Environmental Conservation for the State of Vermont bringing her leadership experience into the public sector.
Emily cut her teeth as an advocate with the Sierra Club in what was then California’s fastest growing county. Since moving to Vermont she has organized and advocated for conservation, clean air, clean water, and sustainable transportation. Whether chairing her town’s parks commission, meeting with communities to address environmental issues, or chairing a multi-state alliance, Emily works to ensure that all stakeholders have a seat at the table and that all voices are heard.
Emily holds a BA Hons in Marketing and Engineering from the University of Huddersfield, UK and a professional Certificate in Marketing Management. She is a graduate of the Vermont Leadership Program’s 2008 cohort and in the same year completed the Vermont Master Gardener program.
A lifelong learner she is currently a member of the Vermont Master Naturalist 2021 cohort. She is on the board of Vermont Parks Forever and Cradle to Grave Arts, and in her spare time is the producing partner for The Quarry Project.
Emily, her husband Bill and dog Aiya live in an energy efficient home they have nearly finished building near Worcester, VT. She is most often found outside, enjoying the different activities and delights that each season brings.
